How to set up a Minecraft Beta server (Windows)

Ever wondered how to make use of Minecraft's 'Multiplayer' option?

Here is how to create a server that you, your friends and anyone you invite can play on.

Method 1 (With PortForwarding)
If you can't port-forward, Go to Method 2 (below).

1. Download the Minecraft Server Software by logging in at www.minecraft.net, going to "Downloads" and then scroll down to this:

2. Now download "Minecraft_Server.exe" to your desktop and place it inside a folder named something like "Minecraft Server" or "Server".

3. Open the file and run "Minecraft_Server.exe" once. Let the map load to at least 50% and then close the program.

4. Inside the folder created earlier you should now see some new files. Click "ops" and add your Minecraft username to it. Next open "Server.properties" (This isn't a recognized file in Windows so when it is clicked, Open it with Notepad). In here edit the settings to your liking, Don't close the Server.Properties file, You'll need it for the next step!

5. Inside the Server.Properties file it asks for a "Server IP". This isn't your public IP address it is instead your local IP. To get this, bring up the start menu and go to run. When run comes up, Type in "CMD" (Without quotation marks) and press enter. This will bring up the Command Prompt. Now type "ipconfig/all" (Again, Without the quotation marks) and a lot of data should come up. Look for the IPv4 Address (It should look something like 192.168.X.XX) Now enter this into the Server.Properties file.

6. Save and close the Server.Properties file. You now need to forward the ports 25565 UDP and TCP on your router. If you don't know how to do this, Google is your friend :).

7. Now if you want to connect to your server from the same PC it is hosted on. Go to Multiplayer and type localhost or your local IP. If you want anyone else to connect you will have to give them your public IP followed by the port. It should look like XX.XXX.XX.XX.X:25565 (With X being a number)

Method 2 (No PortForwarding)

4. Now download and install LogMeInHamachi from http://hamachi.en.softonic.com/. When installed, it should open and look like this (Figure 1).
5. Now, You need to create a network by going to Network and then "Create a new network". Set up a username and password that you and your friends can remember.

6. In Figure 1, There are numbers behind the censored blue box. Now go into the folder created for the Minecraft Server earlier and open the Server.properties file. In this, You should see "Server IP". Enter the number from Hamachi here and change the other settings to your liking. Now save the file and close it.

7. Your finished! To play your server, Run the server software and enter the number from Hamachi into the "Multiplayer" in Minecraft. To get your friends onto your server, Tell them to download Hamachi then go to Network > "Join an existing network" and enter the username and password. Now, They too should see the number in Hamachi. Tell them to enter it into Minecraft and boom, Your server is up and running.
